Villa Romana Fareham

Nestled inside The Old Coach House on High Street, Villa Romana Fareham brings the soul of Italy to the heart of Hampshire. Step through the doors and you’re met with rustic elegance, warm lighting, and that cozy, intimate buzz that makes you want to settle in for hours. It’s the kind of place where conversations linger and meals are meant to be savored.

There’s a certain confidence in the way the menu at Villa Romana is crafted-classic Italian comfort, refined with a modern British twist. Whether you're a lover of rich pastas, perfectly seared seafood, or bold wines, the lineup here doesn't just satisfy-it impresses. From the very first bite of the Antipasto Misto, layered with cured meats, olives, and grilled vegetables, you get the sense that this isn’t just another Italian eatery. This is a kitchen with purpose.

One of the standouts, without question, is the Maiale Al Forno-a slow-roasted pork belly that comes out tender, flavorful, and caramelized at the edges. It’s the kind of dish you remember. If seafood’s your thing, don’t skip the Fritto Misto or the Salmone Con Salsa. Light, crispy, and packed with ocean-fresh flavor, both dishes strike the perfect balance between indulgent and clean. And for the adventurous, the Swordfish offers a firmer texture and smoky edge that pairs beautifully with a crisp glass of Chardonnay.

Pastas? They’ve nailed it. The Lasagne is layered with depth-rich ragu, creamy béchamel, and just the right hit of parmesan. Paired with a glass of red wine from their well-curated list, it's comfort food taken seriously. Even the Tomato Soup, often overlooked, holds its own-a velvety starter with a tangy brightness and a touch of basil that cuts through with finesse.

Villa Romana Fareham is particularly strong in desserts-something not all restaurants can boast. The Pistachio Ice Cream is silky and nutty with a lingering sweetness, while the Panna Cotta wobbles perfectly, served with seasonal berries and a whisper of vanilla. For those craving something rich, the Profiteroles and Salted Caramel Cheesecake are sinfully good. Don’t be surprised if you end up ordering a second round of coffee just to stretch out dessert a little longer-because yes, their espresso is worth lingering over.

The drink selection is a whole mood in itself. Whether you're sipping on Sangria over lunch or toasting with a robust red over dinner, the bar serves up wine, beer, spirits, and cocktails that complement every part of the meal. Their coffee, by the way, is consistently noted for its quality-smooth, strong, and aromatic.

As for the setting, Villa Romana doesn’t just deliver in the kitchen. The space is inclusive and thoughtfully designed, featuring wheelchair-accessible parking, entrances, seating, and restrooms. It's the kind of attention to detail that makes everyone feel welcome, whether you’re flying solo, catching up over lunch, or enjoying a romantic dinner for two.

There’s no takeaway or delivery, and that’s intentional. Villa Romana Fareham invites you to sit down and stay awhile. It's not just about feeding you-it’s about slowing down, appreciating good food, and reconnecting over a shared table. From the attentive service to the carefully plated small dishes, there’s a rhythm here that’s hard to rush-and really, why would you want to?

For anyone in search of authentic Italian dining with character, charm, and an elevated wine list, this spot checks every box. Dining here feels like being welcomed into a family kitchen-only with white tablecloths, candlelight, and a rack of lamb cooked just right.

First time we've been here, was lovely! Mother's day lunch with the family. Super friendly staff, quick service and great atmosphere. We had roast dinners (only improvement would be a bigger Yorkshire pudding and maybe some broccoli ) one of the best I've had in the area, fish and risotto. All very tasty, and great desserts. Will definitely be back to try some more off the menu!

Fabulous location, historic building, phenomenal food. Enough said. The vitello al fungi was exquisite, the pork belly was unctious, melted in your mouth. Big portions, good value for money. Loved it.

The staff are very welcoming and friendly, when you first glance at the menu from outside they appear to be definitely not cheap but for what you get once you take the plunge and step inside assuming they have a free table if you havent booked they are in fact very reasonably priced and what you get is really top quality fayre and the portions are very generous. You will never leave feeling hungry. Food is very well prepared and can be adjusted to personal tastes or allergies on request and is cooked absolutely superbly and so beautifully presented. After many visits here I have never yet had a meal served cold as some reviews claim and even when fully booked with a queue of guests waiting to be seated you never feel pressurised to rush your meal so they can turn the table something some other local nearby "fine dining restaurants" could learn from. In my experience the management are so helpful if there is ever an issue that it makes me really wonder whether some of the negative reviews of this restaurant never even approached the management about their issues and just preferred to be keyboard warriors !!
